Today’s person: Carla Pantoja!
Carla Pantoja kicks butt. I really can’t think of much more to say. In every way, at everything, Carla Pantoja kicks butt.
I was at the callbacks for Cyrano at TheatreWorks a few years ago, trying to look vaguely competent with a sword, and there was Carla - dangerous glint in her eye, sword and gauntlets, spinning, countering, skillfully slashing away. But here’s the thing:
She was really pregnant. I mean really, really pregnant.
And clearly the most dangerous person in the room. Or couple of people. When everyone was assigned a partner for a set of fencing moves we all knew Carla could make any of us look great... or completely inept.
And then the fight choreographer said “I need to see everyone do a forward roll.” I sighed, caught myself, plastered confidence on my face, then thought wait... Carla...
Carla steps right up, undeterred and determined, ready to roll. Everyone in the room was like “NO! Don’t do it!”, And ultimately the director talked her down, but she was ready to forward roll at 7.5 or so months pregnant, jump up and sword fight some more if necessary.
Because Carla Pantoja kicks butt.
