Velina Brown and Michael Gene Sullivan are veteran actors, singers, directors, and theatre professionals. They've appeared in over a hundred productions, ranging from American classics at the American Conservatory Theatre, Theatreworks, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, to Shakespearian classics at the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and the African-American Shakespeare Company, to exciting new work at the California Shakespeare Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, San Francisco Playhouse, Shotgun Players, The Magic Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, and New Conservatory Theatre, to political musical comedies at the never silent, always outrageous San Francisco Mime Troupe. They've appeared in film, television, and have performed in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, off-Broadway, and across the United States.
(For more about Velina and her husband, Michael Gene Sullivan, see the article about them in American Theatre Magazine.)
Michael is also Resident Playwright for the Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe and the Playwrights' Foundation, is a 2017 Playwriting Fellow at the Djerassi Arts Center, for ten years was a regular blogger on Huffingtonpost.com, and is the author of "1984", the stage adaptation of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel. Published by Playscripts, Inc. (New York) and Edicions de 1984 (Barcelona), Michael's adaptation of "1984" premiered at Los Angeles' Actors' Gang Theatre under the direction of Academy Award winning actor Tim Robbins, has since been produced or performed in fourteen countries across Europe, Asia, Australia, Central and South America, in four languages. In 2019/20 season "1984" will open in Kiev, Ukraine, Singapore, as well as major theaters in the United States, and will have its third American Tour. (For Michael's full bio click here.)
Velina is also the creator of a personal consultation service, The Business of ShowBiz, and is a regular columnist for Theater Bay Area Magazine. She is also a composer and guitarist, and has had concerts in San Francisco Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and in 2013 released an EP of her original songs. (Click here to listen to song and voice-over demos.) In 2016 Velina recorded the album " For Those Who Came After: Songs of Resistance from the Spanish Civil War" with the Brooklyn-based band Barbez. In 2017 she and Barbez performed at the world-renown Joe's Pub in New York, and in 2018 they toured Spain and Portugal. (For Velina's full bio click here.)
Both Velina and Michael are Collective Members of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, but work extensively outside of the company. They've directed each other, and have been fortunate to frequently perform together - as lovers, as hero and villain, and as mother and son in one production - and father and daughter in another.
In between all this they also found time to get married and have a son, Zachary. So thanks for coming. Stay awhile, and have a look around to get an idea of our style, our commitment, and our passion.
