Since far too often we only publicly say nice things about people when they are dead I’ve decided to randomly pick a Facebook friend every day and say something nice about them.

Today’s person: Andrew Litzky!
Andrew, his wife Llysa and I were all students in the drama department at San Francisco State University together, and I should’ve known from Andrew’s talent, wit, energy, and imagination that he would go on to do great things. He and Llysa were and are a theater couple like Velina and I, but while we stayed here they moved to Seattle and founded in their own theater! I’ve only had one chance to see any of Theatre Simple’s work, but I follow them from a distance, and know they are far from simple. Their plays are an amazing combination of innovation and adaptation, physical theater, political and psychological insight, and using theater as a transformative experience. What I mean by that is the work Andrew has been part of creating truly manifests an alternate world of intellectual emotionalism and truth/beauty where any sort of investigation is a moment to moment possibility. And even though I haven’t seen Andrew in decades I’ve always felt kinda close to him, and always wish him and his big smiling face well.
